Compass
I feel as if I've forgotten something—a long voyage. We were thirsty, lost on the boundless doldrums, and in love. There were lamps on the floor. Playing cards burning your hands. And there was starlight on the horizon, even though the rest of the world was dark. Was that, too, a dream?
Compass is a narrative project of mine that has taken many forms since its conception in 2010. At its core, it is about Cielo, a runaway from his inland home, and Marin, the captain of the Horizon, a ship whose crew has mutinied. They meet in a port town and decide to travel together in search of the edge of the world.
What happens thereafter varies depending on which version of the story you're experiencing. The interactive comic has become the definitive experience, but the short story still holds a special place in my heart.
