Why do we call it\u00a0pleasantness? It is stranger to think\u00a0that\u00a0the cold, wonderful\u00a0and\u00a0skin-tingling,\u00a0will\u00a0persist long beyond the end\u00a0of all\u00a0terrestrial life, or that the same sights\u00a0capable\u00a0of producing a similar frisson\u00a0will continue to glow to the blindness\u00a0of\u00a0lifeless space in which the planets\u00a0and\u00a0stars would simply be nameless\u00a0balls of\u00a0gas. Maybe in a distant galaxy in a\u00a0hubble\u00a0volume we will never visit an alien\u00a0lifeform\u00a0understands the cold as blazing\u00a0surges\u00a0of\u00a0pain across tongue-like\u00a0appendages\u00a0or\u00a0maybe sees stars\u00a0in\u00a0ultraviolet and other radiation\u00a0and\u00a0responds to them in fear instead\u00a0of\u00a0wonder.
